Solar Installation Process Explained Step by Step
I have led hundreds of installs, and the question never changes: "What exactly will happen at my house?" Here is the full journey, no jargon — so install week feels boring in the best way.
Step 1 — Survey and shade study (week 1)
We visit, measure every roof plane, photograph the electrics and loft, and log shade across the day. Within days you receive a fixed quote with a written production estimate — the number we stand behind.
Step 2 — Design and permits (weeks 2–4)
Engineers finalise panel layout, stringing and inverter placement; we file council permits and your grid-connection application. You approve the design drawings — nothing proceeds on assumptions.
Step 3 — Install days (2–4 days)
Scaffolding goes up day one. Rails, flashing, panels, inverter and battery follow in sequence, with your power off only in short, announced windows. We hoover the loft, photograph everything and walk you through the system before we leave each day.
Step 4 — Inspection and switch-on (weeks 4–6)
The inspector signs off, the meter is swapped or reprogrammed, and your monitoring app goes live. Most customers watch their first kilowatt-hour land before lunch — it never gets old.
Step 5 — Aftercare for decades
We monitor your output daily, remind you about rinse-downs, and handle any warranty claim with the manufacturers. If production ever dips, we usually call you before you've noticed.
